Wedding Tourism is a business initiative of Cindy Westphalen who is Australia’s Number 1 Independent Caterer, owner of Woodburn Homestead in Langhorne Creek and operator of Cindy’s Classic Gourmet Australia-wide. Cindy has worked in the wedding and function planning industries since 1987 and as a highly respected and multi-award-winning caterer and planner, Cindy has a deep understanding of the wedding business.
A wedding venue not only showcases its own style and beauty, but also exposes family, friends and suppliers to an area with which they may otherwise be unfamiliar. Cindy recognised this unique opportunity for regional promotion and is using her business Wedding Tourism to capture this exposure and leverage it for the benefit of all businesses and the extended local communities.
A wedding is a significant investment for a couple, but also for each guest. Wedding guests will take advantage of local accommodation to make a weekend escape out of their friend or family member’s celebration, they may stop for a card or gift at a local store, utilise local transport services, enjoy breakfast at a local café the next day or buy some wine or fresh produce on their way home. The positive impacts of a wedding on a regional community also ripple far into the future; as guests are now familiar with a region, they will consider it for another weekend escape, a wine tasting tour or a celebration of their own.
Wedding Tourism aims to develop opportunities for local communities and businesses through targeted events to raise awareness, recognition and engagement for regional areas as wedding destinations and so much more. When businesses and the local community join together to showcase their offerings, the benefits radiate through the region.
Cindy Westphalen has been operating Cindy’s Classic Gourmet since 1987, and has had the pleasure of working with loving, generous couples and families, to bring their engagement party, wedding reception, birthday, anniversary or celebration together. Cindy’s career has also seen her working with inspiring South Australian public figures, including being the exclusive caterer for the Lord Mayor’s Department, as well as catering functions for the Australian Liberal Party, Prime Minister John Howard and South Australian Premier John Olsen, meeting and exceeding the high standards of Australian politicians.
Opportunities for community involvement motivate and energise Cindy, and she enjoys any chance to promote South Australia and local business. Cindy catered the SA Great Campaign for five years, is a regular guest speaker at local schools for Australian Business Week, and in March 2015 was a guest speaker at the Businesswoman of the Year Awards hosted by Enterprising Women Whyalla, speaking about having come from growing up in Whyalla, to planning weddings and functions around Australia. Cindy’s Classic Gourmet is also an SA Tourism Accredited Business, and was a finalist in three categories in the 2012 Tourism Awards.

As a professionally qualified and aesthetically driven photographer Michael works with the promotions of Cindy’s Classic Gourmet and Woodburn Homestead, and has played an integral part in the modern yet traditionally restored Homestead and surrounding buildings. Since purchasing the property in July 2016 the Westphalen family have worked to bring productivity to the acreage and return Woodburn to its former glory, for the enjoyment of many future generations, and as a base for exploration of the Langhorne Creek region. During the works, Michael has uncovered two full stone wells on the property and restored the cellar into an exclusive dining area.
